In texture, we can again create visual variety through the rule of three and the careful balancing of textures. Smooth textures include slick, silky, soft and slimy. Rough textures are more varied and include bumpy, scaly, coarse, sandy and rocky. Texture is often used in to create moods. A slimy texture is generally repellent and disgusting, while a soft or silky texture is inviting and romantic.
Estee Stanley (2014) Petit Trois
Estee Stanley Designs set styles on the cozy bistro, Petit Trois, laying down black-and-turquoise tiled floors, marble counter tops and wood accents. |
Alexander McQueen (2016) AUTUMN/WINTER WOMENSWEAR
The masculine, classic suiting material for the coat suggests formal wear and this is juxtaposed with a feminine fine lacing. The fluffy dress adds a sense of the flamboyant. |
Peter Pound (2010) Chevrolet 5 Window Coupe 1934 "The Nux Car"
Like many of the pieces examined, this design displays the balance required to create visual interest. A worn chrome texture dominates but is balanced out by rubber tires and an accent of fabric (and colour) in the spears and flags. |
