ANALYSING DESIGNS
|
|
On occasions you will be required to Analyse a Design in more depth than when you are annotating. While this kind of discussion will have more details, you still need to ensure that you are speaking SUCCINCTLY and with CLARITY. Say what it is you want to say, and that's it.
Analysing Designs: The purpose of analysing designs in your Visual Study and Folio is to demonstrate to the moderator your understanding of a variety of designs, visual arts language and each designs relevance to the development of your own work.
Below is a short guide to writing an analysis a design.
1) Look and Look again (Long Looking)
2) Analyse using Visual Arts language
a) Describe the Form (What it looks like)
In this section you need to discuss, using visual arts language, the various visual elements you observe.
b) Analyse the Form (How)
In this section you need to discuss, using visual arts language, the visual principles the designer has used to compose the design.
3) Interpret the Function (What it does)
In this section you need to interpret the function of the design. What is it's purpose? Unlike Fine Arts, a good design should send the same message to everyone. So the function of the design should be pretty clear.
4) Evaluate the Success and discuss the Relevance
In this section you need to evaluate the success/failure of the designers work. Does the design communicate it's purpose? Does it meet the needs of the target market? You also need to discuss the relevance of this piece to your own work.
